Former boxing champ and local activist José Torres has died. The 1965 light heavyweight champion and Olympic silver medalist died of a heart attack in his native Puerto Rico at age 72.

Jose "Chegui" Torres, former boxing great, state athletic commissioner and author, died Monday in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was 72. The cause of death was a heart attack, his wife, Ramonita Ortiz, told The Associated Press.

PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte, Jan. 19 (PNA) – Barangay Una Panabo boxing Team manager Gene Rose Tecson said Davao del Norte had informed the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) through a letter that the team will not be sending boxers to the National Amateur Boxing Championship in Bacolod City, citing a schedule conflict in school.
